Political Collages

The Republican Party stands for changes to social policies in the United States. Republicans hope to reverse Roe v. Wade and make it illegal again for women to have abortions. They also support the death penalty, tax breaks for corporations, prayer in schools, abstinence only education in schools, spreading Christianity and Christian values, drilling for oil in Alaska’s protected ANWR, and a large defense and war budget. They want to change the way individuals live by changing moral laws in America. The Republicans also want to change the way individuals live by paying private companies to complete more of the tasks the government once had.

The Democratic Party stands for changes to the way the United States has been doing business for the last eight years. They want to continue working towards equal rights for minorities and women, protect a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion, protect people from poisons in their foods by making companies label the ingredients, offer gay and lesbian couples the same rights as married couples, help the poor and the homeless with better social programs, improve schools and education, stop the war and bring our soldiers back home, and work to help the restore the rest of the world’s opinion of America. Democratic policies would help individuals, especially minorities and the poor to have equal access to medical care, education, careers, and housing.

Barack Obama

Nuclear Weapons: Barack Obmama has a standing goal to eliminate or reduce the world's nuclear stockpiles greatly. He stresses that the United States of America reduce our nuclear weapon number.

Environment: Barack Obama plans to improve the CO2 emission restraint laws. He stresses protecting the environment and minding alternate, not-destructive energy sources.

Off-Shore Drilling: Obama plans to force the oil companies use their leased land (68 million acres, 40 of which are off shore) for drilling for oil

John McCain

Nuclear Weapons: McCain supports the keeping of nuclear weapons, stating "It’s naive to say that we will never use nuclear weapons."

Environment: John McCain has a system of market-based restraints on greenhouse gas emissions that reduces the amount of CO2 released while simultaneously searching for alternate energy sources.

Off-Shore Drilling: John McCain wants the restrictions on offshore oil drilling to be removed, so that we can use our natural oil reserves.

Forrest Heck

Nuclear Weapons: I think that nuclear weapons should be reduced in number, but we still need a small amount to instill a fear of retaliation should some other country decide to nuke us. Although we need nukes, we also need to have restrictions on the number of nuclear weapons, just like we do with CO2 emissions. Without restrictions, we will inevitably escalate into an arms race and and another Cold War. "Do not forget history, lest it repeat itself."

Environment: In my view, I say that we are desperately in need of an energy source other than oil. We need to cut down on CO2 emissions, along with spending more money on alternate energy so we can reduce the market for oil, so we have more money to spend on alternate energy. The alternate energy soure also needs to be less-than-oil level of damage or non-destructive

Off-Shore Drilling: I say that we should let the oil companies drill offshore, as long as they do not disturb the balence of the ecology surroinding the drill. Although, even though I support it, off-shore oil drilling will need to be restricted again once we find a stable new energy.
